OF MARBLING
Ebru is a traditional art in which patterns formed with paints on water surface, which is prepared using specific techniques and poured into a container called a «tekne», and thickened with specific substances, are transferred onto paper. Ebru has its own particular equipment and application characteristics. The materials and tools used in Ebru are usually prepared by the ebru artist personally. The paints are obtained from the environment using natural methods. Kitre, a plant-based material, is used to thicken the water. The natural acid that allows the paints to spread on the kitre is the gall, found in the gallbladder of animals. Patterns created using paints prepared by natural methods are transferred onto paper.
