Turkish coffee tradition is a living heritage element that has been shaped over centuries with its particular methods of preparation, brewing, and serving and a form of cultural heritage that embodies artistic characteristics through the socio- cultural practices that have emerged around it. Turkish coffee is not merely a beverage; it is a way of life blended with culture, tradition, and friendship. For Turkic people, coffee symbolizes a special moment when time yerlerinde bile açılmıştır. Bu nedenle, Türk kahvesi ve geleneği, Türk toplumunun her seviyesinden bireyler arasında güçlü bir sosyal etkileşim sağlamaktadır. tradition as a symbol of the Turkish way of life. This tradition is regarded by the Turkish society as part of its cultural heritage and is shared by individuals from all cultural and social backgrounds. Since its introduction to Turkish society in the 16th century, coffee houses have opened even in the smallest settlements. This is proof of the increasing demand for Turkish coffee from the past to the present day. It is almost impossible to imagine a Turkish house without at least one Turkish coffee service set. In fact, unlike other beverages, Turkish coffee is perceived as a symbol of the Turkish way of life rather than simply a desire to drink coffee among those who drink it and practice the tradition. Therefore, Turkish coffee and its tradition provide a strong social interaction among individuals from all levels of Turkish society. daha yumuşak, aromalı ve yoğundur. 16. yüzyılda Türk toplumuna tanıtıldığından beri kahvehaneler, en küçük yerleşim coffee lingers on your palate for a long time, preserving its taste and freshness. Secondly, it is softer, more aromatic and richer than other coffees. It is quite easy to distinguish Turkish coffee from other coffees by its unique aroma, grounds and foam. The role of Turkish coffee in socialization dates back to the opening of the first coffee houses in Istanbul. Coffee houses were then, and still are, places where people drink coffee, chat, share news, read books and socialize. The tradition itself is a symbol of hospitality, friendship, courtesy and entertainment. All of this is expressed in the famous Turkish proverb, “A single cup of coffee is remembered for forty years”, meaning that it is worth forty years to drink a single cup of Turkish coffee with a beloved one. This saying reflects the importance of coffee in Turkish culture and how deeply it is integrated into it. The cultural heritage was inscribed on on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013 under the name “Turkish coffee culture and tradition.”1 With this inscription, the tradition’s international awareness and visibility increased, becoming an important reference source for promotional activities. The Turkish coffee tradition supports cultural diversity because the symbols, practices, and ceremonies around the cultural heritage are open to all individuals. The tradition provides fertile ground for people to use and develop their knowledge and skills, creating human potential around the crafts involved in making the special tools used in Turkish coffee making. Many tools, such as coffee grinders, coffee cups, trays, coolers, mortars, hand mills, coffee pots, coffee jars, and special containers, are made of silver and other precious metals, which distinguishes their artistic value and creates unique pieces of art. Today, the Turkish coffee tradition is kept alive by the general public in Türkiye. In particular, families, pottery makers, masters and their apprentices in coffee houses, workers, and coffee vendors play a significant role in keeping the element alive. Ahlat taşı; ev, cami, türbe ve also of significant importance in the history of the Turkic world, having played a strategic role in the process of the Turkish conquest of Anatolia following the Battle of Malazgirt (Manzikert), which took place in 1071. From the early 12th century onwards, Ahlat became one of the largest cities in the Islamic and Turkic world in terms of science, culture, and trade, and was known as “Kubbe’t-ül İslam”. Ahlat played an important role in history as one of the gateways of Turkic-Islamic civilization to Anatolia. Becoming a major cultural centre during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, Ahlat was notable not only for its architecture but also for its stonework. In such a rich historical and cultural environment, Traditional Ahlat Stonework emerged and has been sustained to the present. The traditional stonework in Ahlat and the exceptional works produced by this traditional craftsmanship are part of a remarkable heritage that combines tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Traditional Ahlat Stonework is based on the centuries-old technique of extracting volcanic Ahlat stone from the quarries around Ahlat, located at the foot of Mount Nemrut. The extraction of Ahlat stone by the stone miners, then shaping and ornamenting it by the stone carvers, and finally constructing structures and creating artefacts by the craftsmen constitutes the tradition. The element encompasses the knowledge, methods, skills and aesthetic perception, transmitted from generation to generation for centuries. Volcanic tuff stone (Ahlat stone), a characteristic of the region, has many natural colours such as red, black, grey, white, and ash grey and provides the craftsmen with a distinctive material. When first extracted, this stone is soft and easy to carve, but it hardens over time. Therefore, it is cut, shaped, and decorated by carvers using hand tools without much delay. The decorations on the Ahlat stone are created using engraving, embossing, and carving techniques. The soft and malleable nature of this stone has enabled the creation of works with intricate details, and over time, this art form has become identical to the city. The patterns, geometric shapes, Kufic style hüsn-i hat, and
