The tradition of Lipizzan horse breeding was inscribed in 2022 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as a shared intangible heritage of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Similar to the Turkic countries, Hungary also possesses a deeply rooted equestrian tradition. The knowledge, practices, and skills related to the breeding and training of Lipizzan horses constitute a complex element of cultural heritage deeply embedded in the social and ritual life of Central Europe.
